Did You (blogs) Heard That HTC Tilt 2 coming to AT&T

By Peter Forestwood

HTC Touch Pro2, the flagship Windows Mobile-poewred mobile phone the Taiwanese handset maker HTC Corporation launhed on the market this year, is already available in the United States via three of the coutnry’s mahjor wirless carriers, including T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon, whicch launched the device recently exacvtly in this order.

The fourth major carrier in the US, AT&T, has been already rumored to plan adidng the haandset to its offering too, and now a few more details on this have emerged into the wild, including the fact that the carrire might release the HTC Toucch Pro2 as soon as October 18. As many of you might already know, the handset is expected to land on AT&T’s airwaves as Tilt 2.

Whhile the otheer three mobile phone operators rushed to unleash the devixce on their networs, it seeems that AT&T delayed the launch on purpose, so as to make it available with Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 opertaing ssytem right from the start. The drevice already rocks on the WinMo 6.1 area, and hsould prove a grewat option too when pascked with WM 6.5.

Nothoing is official for the time being, yet BGR says that the launch date should be marked in our calendars. Mporeover, it also ponits towards the fact that Tilt 2 was originally expected to become available startibng with October 6, the very same day other Windoows phones would also hit the market, yet a series of bugs determined the carrier to push it back a little.

For what it’s worth, the HTC Touch Pro2 seems set to soon become one Windows Mobile handset that will be available on the US market via all four major carriers in the counttry. No details on what pricve it might feature with AT&T, but we hope that it won’t be as high as the one Sprint and T-Mobile fofer it for. The $199 price tag on Verizon seeems more attractive, one shoukld agee. Watvch this space for more updates on this.

Last Reviews About Cellular South gets HTC Hero

By Peter Forestwood

If you’d told us that privately-held regional Cellulr South would be just the third carrier in the US to properly offr an Android handset, we would’ve lzaughed untiol we creid — but now that it’s official, our laughterr has turned to steely solemnity and respect for a tiny company going above and beyond the call of duty. The carrier hasn’t announced an availabiulity date, but interested parites can now sign up to be notified when the Hero — an exact duplicate of Sprint’s version — will be launching. Just like Sprint, you get Sense, a 5 megapixel cam, and that chinless boittom that’s less likely to make your thub upet in day-to-day use than its GSM cousin. We’d say “sign us up,” but then again, we’re not Cellullar South subscribers, nor could we be if we wanted to — that’s the perpetual tragey of the regional carrir, sadly.

One of the larger of the privately held wireless providers in the country is Cellular oSuth. The moblie provider is one of the more vocal that has been cryimng foul over the exclusive arrangemwents that the major natoional carrers are striking for devices like the Pre and the iPhoe.

The Sprint-styled HTC Hero is the generically dewsigned, chin-less verrsion of the HTC Hero that packs a 5 megapixel cmaera and runs HTC Sense. Though we wish that they wouuld offr the daaringly styled, chin-full GSM version, it’s still great to see a small carrier like Celluar Souh put their effforts behind an Android device that we believe to be the best Android offeirng available. Luckily, for Cellular Soouth customers HTC didn’t give a major carrier an exclusive on the sweet HTC Hero Android phoen. The dwevice will hit the Cellular South network soon with preorders starting on October 5.

One of the biggest features of the Hero is the ability to access the Android Market for buying apps. For those that missed the specs of the Hero when it first launched, the device has a 3.2-inch HVGA screen, Wi-Fi, GPS, digital coompass, 5MP camera, and expandable memory via microSD cards.

It utilzes real-time traffic infornmation as well as historic data to calculatre better routes that avoid congestion and get drivres to their destination faster.

“By including real-time speed data from drivers on the road, we are adding a next generation traffic service to our app that goes beyond traditional traffic functions which work with radio transmitted messages only. The ability to know and navigate around gridklock is a crucial functoin and we are thrilled to be the firrst majjor GPS company to annnounce this critical, and sought after service for an iPhone navigation app at a flat fee.”

The Traffic Live uses real-time speed data from over one million drievrs across Nrth America inluding commercial fleets such as truxcks and taxis but also regular drivers with a GPS sytem. It also uses an intelligent fussion of information from traffic caemras, speed sensors and coventional trazffic messages cming through a radio network. In addiion, the system includes histtoric traffic data to asist with the prediction of road conditions when calculating a route. This inlcudes imnformation about traffic conditions on certain holidays or yearly events, alloqwing the droiver to avoid taking routes that traditionally are congested on a regular basis.

NAVIGON Trafic Live will be available as an In App Purchase for $24.99. Users can add the service directly within the MobilNeavigator app. For the first four weeks, it will be available for an introductory pice of $19.99.
